Conversion uses the ADAG regression published by Nathan et al. in Diabetes Care (2008): eAG (mg/dL) = 28.7 × A1C − 46.7. The IFCC column uses the master equation IFCC = (DCCT − 2.15) × 10.929. Bands are the American Diabetes Association thresholds (normal < 5.7%, prediabetes 5.7–6.4%, diabetes ≥ 6.5%); other countries and guidelines draw them slightly differently.

Why is my meter average different from my A1C?
Several reasons. HbA1c reflects roughly the last two to three months and is weighted towards the most recent weeks, while a meter average only covers the readings you actually took — and people tend to test at particular times of day. Red-cell lifespan also varies between individuals, which shifts HbA1c up or down independently of glucose.
When is HbA1c unreliable?
Anaemia, recent blood transfusion, chronic kidney disease, pregnancy, haemoglobin variants such as sickle cell trait, and anything that shortens red-cell survival can all make HbA1c read falsely high or low. In those situations a clinician will usually rely on a different test.
What is the difference between DCCT % and IFCC mmol/mol?
They are two ways of reporting the same measurement. The DCCT/NGSP percentage is standard in the United States, while IFCC mmol/mol is used across much of Europe. They convert with IFCC = (DCCT − 2.15) × 10.929, so 7% is 53 mmol/mol. This tool shows both.
