About the Apply LUT to Image

A 3D LUT is a lookup cube that maps every input colour to an output colour. Colourists use them to move a whole image to a named look in one step, and the .cube format from Adobe is what almost every LUT pack ships. This tool reads that file and applies it to your photo without any desktop software.

Each pixel's red, green and blue values place it inside the cube, and the eight surrounding lattice points are blended with trilinear interpolation to get a smooth result — the same technique grading applications use, so a 33-point LUT looks continuous rather than posterised. A strength slider then blends the graded pixels back towards the original, which is how you apply a look at 40 percent instead of all of it.

The LUT and the photo are both read locally with the File API and processed on a canvas in your browser. Nothing is uploaded, so client footage stills and unreleased product shots stay on your machine. The parser reports clearly if a file turns out to be a 1D LUT or if its row count does not match its declared size.

What is a .cube LUT file?

It is a plain-text lookup table that lists an output RGB colour for every point on a three-dimensional grid of input colours. Applying it remaps every pixel in your image, which is how a single small file can carry an entire colour grade.

How do I apply a LUT to a photo online?

Why does my LUT look too strong?

Many packs are built for log or flat camera footage and are far too aggressive on an already-graded JPEG. Pulling the strength slider down to 30 to 60 percent usually gives a usable result on ordinary photos.

What is trilinear interpolation in a LUT?

LUTs only store a coarse grid of colours, typically 17 or 33 points per axis. Trilinear interpolation blends the eight nearest grid points around each pixel's colour, which fills in everything between them smoothly instead of snapping to the nearest entry.

Does this tool support 1D LUTs?

No — it applies 3D cubes only, and it will tell you plainly if you drop a LUT_1D_SIZE file. A 1D LUT adjusts each channel independently and cannot produce the hue shifts a 3D cube can.
