What is the ASCII Table?
The ByteTools ASCII Table is an interactive reference for every character code from 0 to 127, with an option to extend the view to 128-255.
- Decimal, hexadecimal, octal and binary for every code
- Named descriptions for all control characters
- Optional extended range 128-255 (Latin-1)
- Instant search by number, hex, character or name
- Clean, scrollable, mobile-friendly layout
- 100% client-side — no data leaves your browser
How to use the ASCII Table
- 1
Browse the table of ASCII codes 0-127.
- 2
Type in the search box to filter by number, hex, character or name.
- 3
Tick 'Include extended (128-255)' to show the extended Latin-1 range.
- 4
Read the decimal, hex, octal and binary columns for any character.
About the ASCII Table
The ByteTools ASCII Table is an interactive reference for every character code from 0 to 127, with an option to extend the view to 128-255. For each code it shows the decimal, hexadecimal, octal and binary values alongside the printable glyph and a short description, so you can convert or identify a character at a glance.
Control characters like NUL, TAB, LF and ESC are named and described, while printable characters show their symbol. A search box filters the whole table by number, hex value, character or name, so finding the code for a specific character takes a second.
The table is generated and filtered entirely in your browser — there is nothing to load and nothing to upload. It is a handy companion for low-level debugging, character encoding work and learning how text maps to bytes.
Frequently asked questions
What is the ASCII table?
ASCII is a character encoding that maps the numbers 0 to 127 to letters, digits, punctuation and control codes. The table lets you look up any character's numeric value, and this tool shows that value in decimal, hex, octal and binary side by side.
How do I find the ASCII code for a character?
Type the character or its name into the search box and the table filters to matching rows, showing its decimal, hex, octal and binary codes. You can also search by a number to see which character it maps to.
What are control characters?
Control characters are codes 0 to 31 plus 127 that do not print a visible symbol but instead signal actions — for example TAB (9), line feed (10) and carriage return (13). The table names and describes each one.
What is the difference between ASCII and extended ASCII?
Standard ASCII covers codes 0-127. Extended ASCII refers to codes 128-255, which various encodings such as Latin-1 use for accented letters and symbols. Tick the extended option to include that range in the table.
Why does the same character show different values in hex and octal?
They are just different number bases for the same code point. The letter A is 65 in decimal, 41 in hexadecimal, 101 in octal and 01000001 in binary — all four represent the identical value, and the table lines them up for easy conversion.
Does this tool need an internet connection?
No. The whole table is generated in your browser, so once the page has loaded it works offline and never sends any data to a server.
