About the Business Name Generator

The Business Name Generator turns a single keyword into dozens of company name ideas. Choose an industry, pick a naming pattern — compound words, a prefix, a descriptive suffix, a portmanteau or an alliterative pair — and the tool combines your keyword with curated word banks to produce short, pronounceable candidates.

It is built for founders, freelancers and side projects at the blank-page stage. Filters for maximum characters and maximum syllables keep results snappy rather than a mouthful, and a single-word-only switch is there when you want a brandable one-word name for a domain or an app.

All the word banks are embedded in the page and every name is assembled on your device — nothing is uploaded or logged. Because of that, the tool cannot check whether a name is free: always search a domain registrar, your national company register and a trademark database before you commit.

Frequently asked questions

Does this business name generator check domain availability?

No. The tool runs entirely inside your browser with no internet access, so it cannot query a registrar. Take the names you like to a domain search and to your national company register before making a decision.

What makes a good business name?

Short, easy to say out loud, easy to spell after hearing it once, and not boxed into a single product line. Two to four syllables is the sweet spot, which is why the syllable filter defaults there.

Can I use a generated name for my company?

The names are assembled from ordinary English words, so nobody owns them as such — but a specific name may already be registered or trademarked by someone else. Always search a trademark database for your country and industry first.

What is a portmanteau business name?

It is a blend of two words into one, such as a keyword stem joined to an ending like -ly or -ify. Portmanteaus tend to be distinctive and easier to trademark because they are not real dictionary words.

Why do I get fewer names than I asked for?

Every name is deduplicated, and tight length or syllable limits reject a lot of combinations. Raise the maximum characters or syllables, or switch to mixing every pattern, and the list will fill out.
