Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between HEX, RGB and HSL?
They are three ways of writing the same color. HEX (#ff6600) is a compact hexadecimal code, RGB lists red, green and blue channels from 0–255, and HSL describes hue (0–360°), saturation and lightness as percentages. HSL is easiest for humans to adjust because changing lightness or saturation feels intuitive.
How do I pick a color from an image?

What are shades and tints of a color?
A shade is your color mixed with black (darker), and a tint is your color mixed with white (lighter). Designers use them for hover states, backgrounds and text hierarchies. The strip below the swatch generates ten evenly spaced steps automatically.
Can I enter a 3-digit HEX code?
Yes. Shorthand codes like #f60 are expanded automatically to their 6-digit form (#ff6600). Each shorthand digit is doubled, so #abc becomes #aabbcc.
Is this color picker free and private?
Completely. It runs entirely in your browser with JavaScript — nothing is uploaded or logged, there is no sign-up, and it keeps working offline once the page has loaded.
