About the Dice Roller

The ByteTools Dice Roller rolls fair virtual dice for tabletop games, classrooms and quick decisions. Pick a preset — d4, d6, d8, d10, d12 or the classic d20 — or set any custom number of sides, then choose how many dice to roll at once and read each die plus the combined total.

It is built for Dungeons & Dragons and other RPGs, board games with lost dice, probability lessons and any moment you need an honest roll without hunting for physical dice. Six-sided dice show familiar pip faces so a d6 looks just like the real thing, and every result is easy to copy.

Rolls use your browser's cryptographically secure random source and happen entirely on your device — nothing is uploaded or tracked, so the dice are as fair and private as a sealed set on your own table.

Frequently asked questions

Is an online dice roller truly random?

This roller uses crypto.getRandomValues, the browser's cryptographically secure random source, together with rejection sampling to remove modulo bias. Every face has exactly the same chance, so the rolls are as fair as a well-balanced physical die.

What dice can I roll for Dungeons & Dragons?

All the standard polyhedral dice are built in: d4, d6, d8, d10, d12 and d20. You can also set a custom side count for unusual dice like a d100, and roll several at once for damage or ability checks.

Can I roll multiple dice at the same time?

Yes. Set the number of dice and click Roll to get every individual result plus the combined total in one go — handy for 3d6 stat rolls or a fistful of attack dice.

Does the dice roller work offline?

Yes. Everything runs in your browser with JavaScript and no server calls, so once the page has loaded it keeps working without an internet connection, including as an installed app.

Why show pips on the six-sided die?

A d6 with pip faces looks like a real board-game die, which makes results faster to read at a glance. Dice with more sides show the number instead, since there is no traditional pip layout beyond six.
