Laminate, vinyl plank, hardwood and carpet tiles each start from a sensible default coverage and waste figure you can edit.

It also prices underlay across the bare floor area and shows the flooring cost, the underlay cost and a combined total, so you can compare products before you commit. Rooms are entered one per row, which makes it easy to add a hallway or a landing to the same order.

Everything runs locally in your browser and nothing is uploaded. Off-cut reuse, plank direction and room shape all move the real number, so treat the result as an estimate and confirm large orders with your supplier. It is also worth checking the return policy on unopened packs before you round up generously on an expensive floor.

Frequently asked questions

How much extra flooring should I buy for waste?

Ten percent is the usual allowance for a straight lay in regular rooms. Add more — 15% or so — for diagonal or herringbone layouts, long narrow hallways, or rooms with lots of alcoves, because each direction change creates another off-cut you cannot use.

How do I work out how many boxes of laminate I need?

Total the floor area, add your waste allowance, then divide by the coverage printed on the box and round up. A 380 sq ft job at 10% waste is 418 sq ft; at 20.8 sq ft per box that is 21 boxes.

How do I measure an irregular room?

Split it into rectangles and enter each one as its own row. An L-shaped room is two rectangles; a room with a bay is the main rectangle plus the bay. Adding them separately is far more accurate than measuring the widest points.

Do I need underlay under laminate flooring?

Usually yes, unless the planks have it pre-attached. Underlay evens out small subfloor imperfections, adds acoustic insulation and, with the right grade, acts as a moisture barrier over concrete. It is priced across the bare floor area, not the area including waste.

Should I keep spare flooring after the job?

Keep at least one full pack. Batches vary in shade and product lines are discontinued, so having matching planks or tiles on hand makes future damage repairable without relaying the whole floor.
