The ByteTools Image Channel Splitter takes a picture apart one channel at a time. Channel separations are how retouchers find the cleanest luminosity mask, how print shops sanity-check ink coverage before a job goes on press, and how photographers spot noise that only lives in the blue channel. A colourised toggle switches each separation between a tinted view and a plain grayscale one, which is the version you want when the channel will be used as a mask.

Every separation is computed in your browser from the canvas pixel buffer, so processing is 100% local and your image is never uploaded to a server. The on-screen previews are scaled down for speed, but each Download PNG button re-renders that channel at the full resolution of the file you dropped in.

Frequently asked questions

What does splitting an image into channels mean?

A colour image stores three numbers per pixel: how much red, green and blue it contains. Splitting the image shows each of those sets on its own, so the red channel is a picture of redness rather than a red-tinted photo. It is the standard first step for masking, retouching and print prep.

What is the difference between RGB channels and CMYK separations?

RGB channels are the additive components a screen emits, while CMYK separations are the subtractive cyan, magenta, yellow and black ink plates a press prints. This tool converts your pixels to CMYK and draws each plate like ink on paper, so a darker area means more of that ink.

Should I download channels colourised or in grayscale?

Use colourised when you want a visual sense of where each component lives in the picture. Use grayscale when the channel is going to be used as a luminosity mask, an alpha channel or a laser or CNC input, because those workflows expect a plain 0-255 brightness map.

Why does the green channel usually look the sharpest?

Camera sensors use twice as many green photosites as red or blue in the Bayer pattern, and human vision is most sensitive to green, so the green channel typically carries the most detail and the least noise. That is why retouchers often build masks from it.

Are my images uploaded when I split channels?

No. The separation runs on canvas pixel data inside your browser and no file is ever sent to a server. You can safely split client artwork, unpublished photos or confidential scans without them leaving your device.
