About the Passport Photo Maker
The ByteTools Passport Photo Maker crops any portrait to an official photo size — 35 × 45 mm used across India, the UK, the EU and most of the world, the US 2 × 2 inch format, China's 33 × 48 mm and other presets — rendered at the regulation 300 DPI. Drag the photo to position the face, zoom to size it, and export a print-ready JPEG with correct density metadata.
You can also lay multiple copies onto a single 4 × 6 inch print sheet with cutting guides, so one standard print from any photo kiosk yields up to eight passport photos for pennies. A white background fill is applied behind transparent images.
Everything is processed 100% locally in your browser — your photo never leaves your device. Note that this tool handles the sizing and layout; official requirements about expression, lighting and background color still apply, so check your issuing authority's rules before submitting.
Frequently asked questions
What size is a passport photo?
Most countries — including India, the UK and all of the EU — use 35 × 45 mm, which is 413 × 531 pixels at 300 DPI. The United States uses 2 × 2 inches (600 × 600 px at 300 DPI). Pick the preset for your country and the tool sizes everything correctly.
How many passport photos fit on a 4×6 print?
Eight 35 × 45 mm photos fit on one 4 × 6 inch (10 × 15 cm) sheet in a 4 × 2 grid, and six 2 × 2 inch photos in a 3 × 2 grid. The tool packs the copies edge-to-edge with thin cutting guides, so a single standard print from any photo lab gives you a full set.
Will this photo be accepted for my passport application?
The tool guarantees the correct dimensions and resolution, but acceptance also depends on rules this tool cannot check: neutral expression, even lighting, plain light background, no glasses in many countries, and recent capture. Review your issuing authority's photo guidelines before submitting.
How do I position the face correctly?
Most authorities want the head (chin to crown) filling roughly 70–80% of the photo height, centered horizontally, with eyes in the upper half. Drag the image and use the zoom slider until the face sits in that zone, using the preview frame as your guide.
Is my photo uploaded when I use this tool?
No. Cropping, scaling and sheet layout all run in your browser with the canvas API. The photo never touches a server — sensible, given it is literally an identity document photo.
