About the PDF Page Counter
The ByteTools PDF Page Counter tells you how many pages a document has the moment you drop it in, then goes further: it lists every page with its width and height in points and millimetres, the paper size it matches, its orientation and any rotation stored in the file.
The PDF is read locally in your browser and never uploaded, so you can count pages in tender submissions, legal bundles and client files without handing them to a third party.
Print shops use it to quote jobs, students to check a page limit before submitting, and administrators to confirm a scan captured every sheet. The full report copies to your clipboard in one click.
Frequently asked questions
How do I count the number of pages in a PDF without opening it?
Drop the file onto this page and the total appears immediately, along with the file size and a per-page breakdown. Nothing is uploaded and no PDF reader needs to be installed — the count is read straight from the document structure.
Can I count the pages of several PDFs at once?
This tool reads one document at a time so it can show a full per-page breakdown. To total a set of files, either check them one after another or merge them first with the Merge PDF tool and count the result.
Why does my PDF page count differ from my printer's?
Printers count sheets, not pages. Duplex printing puts two pages on one sheet, and N-up layouts put several pages on each side, so a 20-page PDF can easily become five sheets of paper.
What does the rotation column mean?
PDF pages can carry a rotation value of 0, 90, 180 or 270 degrees that viewers apply when displaying them. A page rotated 90° is stored one way round and shown another, which is why this tool reports the dimensions as you actually see them.
Is the page count accurate for password-protected PDFs?
Encrypted files cannot be opened without their password, so the tool shows an error rather than a count. Unlock the document in a viewer, save an unprotected copy, and count that instead.
