Atomic weights follow the IUPAC 2021 abridged standard atomic weights. Values in square brackets are the mass number of the most stable known isotope, used for elements with no stable form. Lanthanum and actinium are shown at the head of the f-block rows, the layout used by most textbooks; IUPAC places lutetium and lawrencium in group 3 instead. Configurations for elements above 108 are predicted, not measured.

About the Interactive Periodic Table
The ByteTools Interactive Periodic Table shows all 118 elements in the familiar 18-column layout, colour-coded by category from alkali metals through to noble gases. Click any tile and a detail panel opens with the element's atomic number, standard atomic weight, group, period, block, electron configuration and physical state at room temperature.
A search box filters by name, symbol or atomic number, and a category filter dims everything outside the group you are studying — handy for revision when you want to see just the halogens or just the transition metals. The lanthanides and actinides appear on their own rows beneath the main table, as they do in most textbooks.
The entire dataset is built into the page, so there are no lookups, no tracking and no waiting. It loads instantly, works offline and never sends anything you click or type to a server.
Frequently asked questions
How many elements are in the periodic table?
118 are currently recognised, running from hydrogen at atomic number 1 to oganesson at 118. Everything past uranium, element 92, is produced artificially, and the heaviest of them exist for only fractions of a second.
What do the groups and periods mean?
A period is a horizontal row and tells you which electron shell is being filled. A group is a vertical column, and elements within one share the same number of outer electrons, which is why they behave so similarly in reactions.
Why are the lanthanides and actinides shown separately?
They belong between groups 2 and 3 of periods 6 and 7, but printing them inline would make the table 32 columns wide. Pulling the f-block out into two rows underneath keeps the layout readable without changing the chemistry.
What do the atomic weights in square brackets mean?
They mark elements with no stable isotope, such as technetium and everything beyond bismuth. IUPAC publishes no standard atomic weight for these, so the mass number of the most stable known isotope is given instead.
What is an electron configuration?
It describes how an atom's electrons are distributed across its orbitals, written in condensed form using the previous noble gas. Carbon is [He] 2s² 2p², meaning helium's two electrons plus four more in the second shell.
