About the Quarter of Year Calculator
The ByteTools Quarter of Year Calculator identifies which calendar quarter any date falls in — Q1 (Jan–Mar), Q2 (Apr–Jun), Q3 (Jul–Sep) or Q4 (Oct–Dec). It also shows the quarter's exact start and end dates, how many days have elapsed since the quarter began, and how many days remain until it ends.
Quarters drive financial reporting, sales targets, OKRs and tax deadlines, so knowing where a date sits — and how much of the quarter is left — helps with planning and progress tracking. The tool works for any year and uses standard calendar quarters aligned to the January-start year.
All of this is computed locally in your browser with JavaScript. No dates are uploaded, so it is a fast, private reference for business planning and reporting.
Frequently asked questions
Which months are in each quarter?
Standard calendar quarters are Q1 January–March, Q2 April–June, Q3 July–September and Q4 October–December. Each quarter is three months long, and the tool labels your date with the correct one.
What quarter is a particular date in?
Pick the date and the calculator divides the month by three to place it in Q1 through Q4, then shows that quarter's start and end dates so you can see the full period at a glance.
How many days are in a quarter?
Calendar quarters range from about 90 to 92 days. Q1 has 90 days (91 in a leap year), Q2 has 91, and Q3 and Q4 each have 92. The tool accounts for leap years automatically.
How do I find how many days are left in the quarter?
The calculator subtracts your date from the quarter's end date, showing the days remaining. It also shows how many days have elapsed since the quarter started, which is handy for tracking quarterly targets.
Are these the same as fiscal quarters?
Not necessarily. This tool uses standard calendar quarters starting in January. Many organisations use fiscal years that start in a different month, so their fiscal quarters are shifted from these calendar quarters.
