About the Split PDF by Text

Batches of invoices, payslips, statements and certificates usually arrive as one long PDF where every document starts with the same header. This tool finds that header. Type a phrase or a regular expression, and every page whose text contains it becomes the first page of a new output file.

Three modes cover the usual jobs: start a new file at every match, produce one file per matching page, or keep only the matching pages in a single document. Case sensitivity is optional, and the regular expression mode handles patterns such as an invoice number that changes every time.

Searching and splitting both happen in your browser using pdfjs and pdf-lib, so payroll and billing documents are never uploaded. Each output part is listed with its page range and file size before you download it.

Frequently asked questions

How do I split a PDF of invoices into separate files?

Find a phrase that appears once on the first page of every invoice, such as Invoice Number or your company name in the header, and use the start-a-new-file-at-every-match mode. Each invoice comes out as its own PDF.

My search finds nothing even though I can see the words. Why?

The text layer often spaces words differently from what the page shows, and headers set in small caps may be stored in a different case. Try a shorter distinctive fragment, and leave Match case switched off.

What can I do with the regular expression mode?

It matches patterns rather than fixed text, so you can catch a header whose invoice number changes on every page. If the pattern is malformed the tool tells you clearly instead of failing silently.

Does splitting reduce the quality of the pages?

No. Pages are copied whole from the original document, so the text, images and fonts in each output file are exactly what they were. Only the page count changes, which is why the parts add up to roughly the original size.
