About the Title Tag Length Checker

The Title Tag Length Checker measures your title the way Google actually truncates it — by rendered pixel width, not character count. It draws your text at Google's SERP font size and reports the exact width against the ~580px desktop and ~490px mobile cut-offs, with a preview of what survives truncation on each.

Character counts still shown, because briefs ask for them — but two 55-character titles can differ by 100px depending on letter widths, which is why 'WWW' titles get chopped while 'illicit' ones fit. A keyword field tells you where your primary keyword sits and whether it lands in the visible portion.

This is a deliberately focused, single-metric tool: paste, measure, trim. For a full Google-style snippet mock-up with your URL and description, use our SERP Snippet Preview. Everything runs 100% locally in your browser and nothing you type is stored or uploaded.

Frequently asked questions

How many characters should a title tag be?

About 50–60 characters usually fits, but Google truncates by pixel width — roughly 580px on desktop — not by characters. Wide letters like W and M consume the budget faster than narrow ones, so measuring pixels, as this tool does, is the only reliable check.

What happens if my title tag is too long?

Google cuts it off with an ellipsis at the pixel limit, and over-long titles are also more likely to be rewritten entirely. Your full title still gets read for ranking purposes — the cost is a worse-looking snippet and lost clicks, not lost relevance.

Should my keyword be at the start of the title?

Earlier is generally better: it guarantees the keyword survives truncation, and users scanning results see it immediately. Don't mangle readability to force it first, but if this tool shows your keyword in the truncated zone, that is worth fixing.

Why does this tool show different desktop and mobile limits?

Google's result column is narrower on mobile but uses a slightly smaller font, so the effective budgets differ — roughly 580px desktop versus 490px mobile in our measurement. A title can fit on one and truncate on the other, which is why both previews are shown.

Is the pixel measurement exact?

It uses the canvas measureText API at Arial 20px/18px, closely matching Google's SERP rendering, so it is accurate to within a few pixels on most systems. Google adjusts its layout periodically, so treat ~580px as a strong guideline rather than a contract.
