About the TS to MP4 Converter

The ByteTools TS to MP4 Converter repackages MPEG transport stream (.ts) files — the format used by HLS streaming segments, DVB broadcasts and some camcorders — into a standard MP4. When the TS carries H.264 video and AAC audio (the common case for downloaded stream segments), the streams are copied losslessly and the conversion takes seconds.

It is the standard fix for video downloaded from streaming sites or recorded from broadcast: players choke on raw .ts files or refuse to seek in them, while the remuxed MP4 plays and scrubs perfectly everywhere. The tool automatically converts the AAC audio's ADTS framing to the MP4-native format during the copy.

Everything runs 100% locally in your browser — nothing is uploaded. If your TS uses broadcast audio codecs like MP2 that MP4 cannot carry, switch the audio option to re-encode to AAC and the tool handles that too.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert a downloaded .ts file to MP4?

Drop the .ts file on this tool and click Convert to MP4. For typical stream downloads the video and audio are copied without re-encoding, so it finishes in seconds with zero quality loss.

Does TS to MP4 conversion lose quality?

Not in the default mode. The video and audio streams are copied bit-for-bit into the MP4 container — only the packaging changes. Quality loss only occurs if you choose the optional audio re-encode, and that touches audio only.

Why won't my TS file play or seek properly?

Transport streams are designed for broadcasting, not for file playback: they lack a global index, so many players cannot seek in them reliably. Remuxing into MP4 adds a proper index, which fixes both playback and seeking.

What if the conversion fails with an audio error?

Your TS probably carries MP2 or another broadcast audio codec that the MP4 container cannot hold. Switch the audio option to Re-encode to AAC and run it again — the video is still copied losslessly.

Is my file uploaded anywhere?

No. The remux runs entirely in your browser via WebAssembly. Your recordings and downloads never leave your device.
