What is the Word Cloud Generator?

Paste any text and get a word cloud in a second. The generator counts how often each word appears, drops common English stop words, sizes every word by the square root of its frequency, and places the words with an Archimedean spiral so they pack tightly without overlapping.

  • Font size scaled by the square root of word frequency between your chosen limits
  • Archimedean spiral placement with collision detection for tight packing
  • Built-in English stop-word list, switchable on and off
  • Five colour palettes plus optional vertical rotation
  • Frequency list showing the exact count behind every word
  • One-click PNG download, generated entirely in your browser

How to use the Word Cloud Generator

  1. 1

Paste your text into the input box — an article, a set of survey answers or a whole chapter.

  2. 2

Set the maximum number of words and the smallest and largest font sizes.

  3. 3

Pick a colour palette and decide whether to rotate some words vertically.

  4. 4

Leave stop-word removal on so “the” and “and” do not dominate the cloud.

  5. 5

Click Download PNG to save the finished word cloud.

About the Word Cloud Generator

Paste any text and get a word cloud in a second. The generator counts how often each word appears, drops common English stop words, sizes every word by the square root of its frequency, and places the words with an Archimedean spiral so they pack tightly without overlapping.

You control the maximum number of words, the smallest and largest font sizes, the minimum word length, one of five colour palettes and whether some words are rotated vertically. The layout is deterministic, so the same text always produces the same cloud, and the finished canvas downloads as a PNG ready for a slide, a report or a blog post.

The cloud is drawn entirely in your browser on an HTML canvas. Your text is never uploaded to a server, no account is needed, and everything keeps working offline once the page has loaded.

Frequently asked questions

How do I make a word cloud from text?

Paste the text into the box above, adjust the word limit and font sizes if you want, and the cloud appears immediately. Click Download PNG to save it. No sign-up or upload is involved.

What are stop words and should I remove them?

Stop words are common function words like “the”, “and” and “of” that appear in every text and carry no topic information. Leaving removal on is almost always right — otherwise those words swamp the cloud and hide the words that actually matter.

Why are some words missing from my cloud?

Either they fell outside your maximum word count, they were shorter than the minimum word length, they are stop words, or they simply could not be fitted on the canvas. The tool tells you when words did not fit — lower the largest font size to make room.

How is the size of each word decided?

By the square root of its frequency relative to the most common word, scaled between your smallest and largest font sizes. The square root is used because raw frequency makes the top word so large that everything else becomes unreadable.

Can I use the word cloud commercially?

Yes. The PNG is generated on your device from your own text, so it is yours to use in presentations, reports, blog posts or client work with no attribution required.

Is my text sent to a server?

No. Counting, layout and drawing all happen in your browser using JavaScript and the HTML canvas, so survey responses, interview transcripts and confidential documents never leave your device.
