Repeated Words Checker
Find words repeated too close together — plus doubled words like “the the” — with a proximity window you control. Free and 100% in-browser.
Red = immediately doubled words, amber = the same word reused within your proximity window. Unlike a frequency counter, this checker only flags repeats that are close enough for a reader to notice.
What is the Repeated Words Checker?
Repeated Words Checker finds words you have reused within a sliding proximity window — by default, the same word appearing twice within 100 words — as well as accidental immediate doubles like “the the”.
- Proximity-based detection — flags repeats readers actually notice
- Catches doubled words (“the the”) that spellcheckers miss
- Configurable window, minimum length and common-word filter
- Both occurrences of each repeat highlighted in place
- Summary table with repetition counts and closest gaps
- 100% offline — text never leaves your browser

About the Repeated Words Checker
Repeated Words Checker finds words you have reused within a sliding proximity window — by default, the same word appearing twice within 100 words — as well as accidental immediate doubles like “the the”. Both occurrences of each repeat are highlighted in your text, and a summary table shows which words you lean on and how close together they land.
It solves a different problem from a frequency counter: total counts don't tell you that “fascinating” appeared twice in one paragraph. Proximity is what readers actually notice. Novelists use it for echo words, students for essay polish, and everyone benefits from the doubled-word catch that spellcheckers often miss.
You control the window size, minimum word length and whether very common words are ignored. Everything runs 100% locally in your browser — your draft is never uploaded.
Frequently asked questions
How is this different from a word frequency counter?
A frequency counter tells you a word appears 12 times in 5,000 words, which may be fine. This checker flags the two uses that landed 40 words apart — the echo a reader actually hears. Proximity, not raw count, is what makes repetition feel repetitive.
What window size should I use?
The 100-word default approximates a paragraph or two — the range where readers notice echoes of distinctive words. Tighten it to 30–50 for dense copy like ads, or widen it for distinctive rare words that stand out even chapters apart.
Why does it ignore words like “the” and “and”?
Structural words repeat constantly in normal English and are invisible to readers, so flagging them would bury the real echoes. The filter is optional — turn it off if you want absolutely every repeat, and note that immediate doubles like “the the” are always caught regardless.
Does it catch “the the” style typos?
Yes — immediately doubled words are flagged in red no matter their length or how common they are. It is one of the most frequent typos to survive both spellcheck and human proofreading.
Is my text uploaded anywhere?
No. The analysis runs completely in your browser and works offline. Your writing stays on your device.
