Writing Goal Calculator

Turn a word-count target and deadline into a daily writing plan: words per day, a full schedule table and a projected finish date at your own pace.

Writing days

Pure date arithmetic: the words remaining are spread evenly across the writing days you selected between tomorrow and your deadline. The projection simulates your own daily pace on the same days.

What is the Writing Goal Calculator?

The Writing Goal Calculator turns “50,000 words by the end of the month” into a concrete plan. Enter your target word count, what you have written so far, your deadline and which days of the week you actually write, and it computes the words you must produce on each writing day — plus a day-by-day schedule with running totals.

  • Words-per-day target from goal, progress and deadline
  • Choose exactly which weekdays you write
  • Day-by-day schedule with running totals (weekly view for long projects)

About the Writing Goal Calculator

The Writing Goal Calculator turns “50,000 words by the end of the month” into a concrete plan. Enter your target word count, what you have written so far, your deadline and which days of the week you actually write, and it computes the words you must produce on each writing day — plus a day-by-day schedule with running totals.

It also answers the more honest question: if you realistically manage, say, 500 words per session, when will you actually finish? The projection simulates your own pace across your chosen writing days and reports the date you would cross the finish line, so you can see the gap between the plan and reality before it bites.

Everything is pure date arithmetic computed 100% locally in your browser — your goals and progress are never uploaded anywhere, and the planner works offline. It is perfect for NaNoWriMo, thesis chapters, serialized fiction, client copy deadlines and any project where a distant target has to become a number you can hit today.

Frequently asked questions

How many words a day for NaNoWriMo?

50,000 words in 30 days is 1,667 words per day if you write daily. Skip weekends and it jumps to about 2,273 across 22 writing days — set your actual writing days here to get your true daily number.

What is a realistic daily word count?

Many professional novelists aim for 500–2,000 words a day; first drafts move faster than edited prose. Enter the pace you have actually sustained before, and the projected finish date will tell you whether your deadline is honest.

What if I fall behind schedule?

Update the “words written so far” field and the calculator redistributes the remaining words over the days left, giving you the new daily target. Recalculating weekly keeps the plan realistic instead of demoralising.

Does the schedule account for rest days?

Yes — untick any weekdays you do not write and the words are spread only across the days you selected, between tomorrow and your deadline. The projection uses the same writing days.
