The months and days are worked out with calendar-aware borrowing from the real length of the preceding month, so the answer matches how people actually count ages rather than dividing by an average month.
You also get the gap expressed as a total number of days, weeks and whole months, and both people's ages side by side. The measuring date defaults to today but can be set to any past or future date, which is useful for eligibility rules, school year cut-offs and historical comparisons between two people.

Frequently asked questions
How is an age difference in years, months and days calculated?
Subtract the years, then the months, then the days, borrowing from the larger unit whenever a field goes negative. The days borrow the real length of the preceding month rather than thirty, which is why this tool can differ by a day from calculators that use an average month.
Should an age gap be measured in days or in years?
Both are shown here. The years-months-days figure is what people say out loud, while the total in days is the one to use for anything that has to be sorted or compared numerically, such as school intake dates or benefit eligibility rules.
Can I compare two ages on a date in the past?
Yes. Change the measuring date to any date on or after both birth dates and both ages are recalculated for that moment, along with the matching date. Set it to a future date instead to see how old each person will be then.
What does the matching date mean?
It is the day on which the older person was exactly as old as the younger person is on your measuring date. It answers the when-was-I-your-age question directly, and it is derived from the younger person's exact years, months and days.
Are the birth dates I enter stored or uploaded?
No. The whole comparison runs in JavaScript inside your browser, and nothing is sent to a server or saved anywhere. Closing the tab discards the dates entirely, so you can compare real dates of birth without sharing personal data.
