About the Audio Volume Changer

The ByteTools Audio Volume Changer raises or lowers the loudness of any audio file and exports the result as an MP3. Drop in a file, set the volume from 0 to 300 percent, and the change is applied with ffmpeg's volume filter.

It is ideal for boosting a quiet voice recording, taming an over-loud clip, or matching the level of several files before combining them. A setting of 100 percent keeps the original level, below reduces it and above amplifies it.

Everything runs entirely in your browser using a WebAssembly build of ffmpeg. Your audio never leaves your device — no uploads, no server, no account — so your files stay private, and the tool keeps working offline once loaded.

Frequently asked questions

How does the volume percentage work?

100% leaves the audio unchanged. A value like 200% doubles the amplitude to make quiet audio louder, while 50% halves it. Values above 100% amplify, values below 100% attenuate.

Will boosting the volume cause distortion?

Amplifying audio that is already loud can cause clipping and distortion. If a high setting sounds harsh, lower the percentage until it is clean, or apply a smaller boost.

Can I make audio completely silent?

Yes. Setting the volume to 0% mutes the audio entirely. Any value between 0 and 100 percent reduces the level without muting it completely.

Is my audio uploaded to a server?

No. The adjustment runs entirely in your browser using WebAssembly, so your file is processed on your own device and never uploaded.

Which browsers are supported?

In-browser processing needs a modern desktop browser such as Chrome, Edge or Firefox. Because everything runs locally, large files take longer and use more memory.
