About the Business Days Calculator
The ByteTools Business Days Calculator counts the number of working days between two dates, automatically skipping Saturdays and Sundays. Add your own public holidays — one date per line — and they are excluded too, giving you an accurate figure for SLAs, delivery windows, leave requests and project timelines.
It is built for project managers estimating delivery, HR teams counting leave, freelancers scoping deadlines and anyone who needs "how many working days" rather than raw calendar days. Alongside business days you also see the number of weekend days and the total span, so the whole period is easy to check.
All counting happens locally in your browser with JavaScript — your dates and holiday lists are never uploaded, making it safe for internal HR and client-project data.
Frequently asked questions
How are business days calculated?
The calculator walks every day from the start date to the end date, counting only Mondays through Fridays. Any date you list as a holiday is skipped even if it falls on a weekday, giving you the true number of working days.
Does the count include the start and end dates?
Yes. Both the start and end dates are included in the range, so a Monday-to-Friday period counts as five business days. This matches how most delivery and SLA windows are quoted.
How do I add public holidays?
Type or paste each holiday on its own line in the holidays box using the YYYY-MM-DD format, for example 2026-12-25. Any listed date that falls on a working day is removed from the business-day total.
What is the difference between business days and calendar days?
Calendar days count every day including weekends, while business days count only working days. A 10-calendar-day period usually contains about 6–8 business days depending on how many weekends and holidays it spans.
Are weekends always Saturday and Sunday?
This calculator treats Saturday and Sunday as the weekend, which is the most common convention. If your working week differs, simply add the extra non-working dates to the holiday list to exclude them.
