  • Under 1% — low
  • 1–3% — average
  • 3–6% — good
  • Over 6% — excellent

Commonly cited ranges only — real benchmarks vary by platform, niche and account size.

Formula: (likes + comments + shares + saves) ÷ base × 100, where the base is followers, reach or impressions.

What is the Engagement Rate Calculator?

Engagement rate is total interactions (likes + comments + shares + saves) divided by an audience base, times 100. Divided by followers it measures account engagement; divided by reach or impressions it measures how well a specific post performed with the people who actually saw it.

  • Three formulas: by followers, by reach, by impressions
  • Counts likes, comments, shares and saves as engagements
  • Static reference bands for reading your rate in context
  • Handles missing reach/impressions gracefully
  • Instant recalculation as you type
  • 100% local — your analytics numbers stay private

  4. 4

Compare the by-followers rate against the reference bands shown below the results.

About the Engagement Rate Calculator

Engagement Rate Calculator computes the three standard engagement formulas from one set of inputs. Enter a post's likes, comments, shares and saves, then your follower count and — if you have them from your analytics — reach and impressions. You get engagement rate by followers, by reach and by impressions side by side.

The by-followers rate is the classic public benchmark; by-reach tells you how compelling the post was to the people it actually reached; by-impressions accounts for repeat views. The calculator shows a static reference band (commonly cited industry ranges) so you can read the number in context — benchmarks vary by platform, niche and audience size, so treat them as orientation, not judgment.

All arithmetic runs 100% locally in your browser. Your metrics are never uploaded, so client numbers stay confidential.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate engagement rate?

Add up the interactions — likes, comments, shares and saves — divide by your follower count, and multiply by 100. For a post with 240 interactions on a 10,000-follower account, that is 240 ÷ 10,000 × 100 = 2.4%.

What is a good engagement rate?

Commonly cited ranges put 1–3% by followers around average, 3–6% good, and above 6% excellent — but real benchmarks vary a lot by platform, niche and account size, and small accounts naturally run higher. Use the bands as orientation, not a grade.

Should I calculate engagement by followers, reach or impressions?

By followers for public comparison and influencer vetting, because everyone can compute it. By reach to judge content quality — it measures the reaction of people who actually saw the post. By impressions when repeat views matter, such as ad frequency analysis.

Why is my engagement rate by reach higher than by followers?

Because most posts reach only a fraction of your followers. Dividing the same interactions by a smaller reach number produces a larger percentage — that is normal and expected.

Do saves and shares count as engagement?

Yes on most platforms — Instagram in particular weights saves and shares heavily as quality signals. This calculator includes both, but you can leave any field at zero if your platform does not report it.
