Future Value Calculator
Calculate the future value of a lump sum and regular contributions given a rate and number of periods. See the total and the interest earned over time.
Assumes a constant rate per period. Keep the rate and period consistent (e.g. a monthly rate with a number of months). Estimates only, not financial advice.

About the Future Value Calculator
The ByteTools Future Value Calculator shows what a sum of money will be worth in the future once it earns a return. Enter a present lump sum, an optional regular contribution per period, the rate per period and the number of periods, and it applies the future-value formula to show the ending balance and the interest earned.
It is useful for savers, investors and students working with the time value of money. By supporting both a starting amount and recurring deposits, it models everything from a one-off investment to a steady savings plan.
All math runs locally in your browser with nothing uploaded, so your figures stay private. Results assume a constant rate and are estimates for planning only, not financial advice.
Frequently asked questions
What is future value?
Future value is what a sum of money today will be worth at a later date once it earns interest or returns. It uses FV = PV × (1 + r)^n for a lump sum, where r is the rate per period and n is the number of periods, plus an annuity term when you add regular contributions.
How do regular contributions change the future value?
Each contribution earns returns for the remaining periods, so adding money regularly builds a much larger balance than a lump sum alone. This calculator grows every contribution to the end date using the annuity formula and adds it to the grown lump sum.
What is the difference between end and start of period contributions?
An ordinary annuity adds each contribution at the end of the period, while an annuity due adds it at the start, giving it one extra period to grow. Annuity-due balances are slightly higher. You can pick whichever timing matches your plan.
How do I choose the rate and number of periods?
Use a rate and period that match: for monthly compounding, divide the annual rate by 12 and set periods to the number of months. For annual compounding, use the annual rate and the number of years. Keeping them consistent gives an accurate result.
Are my numbers private?
Yes. Everything is calculated in your browser and nothing is uploaded or stored, so your amounts and rates stay private.
