How do I change the artist or album name on an MP3?

Drop the file into this page and the existing tags appear in the form. Type over whatever is wrong and click Save Tagged MP3. The download has the corrected tag, and the audio inside it is completely unchanged.

Does editing tags reduce the sound quality?

No. Tags live in a block of bytes in front of the audio, so the tool writes a new block and copies the original MPEG frames across untouched. Nothing is decoded or re-encoded, which is why it finishes instantly even on a long file.

Why does my music player still show the old information?

Most players cache metadata in their own library database. You are downloading a new file, so remove the old one from your library and add the new one, or ask the player to rescan. Phones sometimes need the file re-synced entirely.

What is the difference between artist and album artist?

Artist is who performed that individual track. Album artist is who the album belongs to. On a compilation, setting album artist to something like Various Artists is what stops your player from splitting one album into a dozen single-track albums.

Will my other tags such as lyrics or ratings be kept?

No. The tool writes a fresh ID3v2.3 tag containing the fields shown on this page plus your cover art, so unusual frames written by other taggers - lyrics, ratings, ReplayGain, custom fields - are not carried over. Keep a copy if those matter to you.
