Choose timestamps instead and it cuts exactly where you tell it, accepting plain seconds, mm:ss or hh:mm:ss so you can paste times straight from your notes or a chapter list.

It suits long podcasts that need chapter files, lectures split by topic, audiobooks divided into chapters, and any recording that has to fit under an upload size limit. The file's length is read as soon as you drop it in, so you can see how long each equal part will be before committing.

All the cutting runs locally in your browser using a WebAssembly build of ffmpeg, and nothing is uploaded. Keeping the original format copies the audio across without decoding it, so the parts are lossless and the job finishes far faster than re-encoding would.

How do I split an audio file into equal parts?

Drop the file in, leave the mode on equal parts, and type how many you want. The tool reads the total length and divides it evenly, telling you up front roughly how long each part will be before you click Split Audio.

What time format should I use for custom cut points?

Any of three: plain seconds like 90, minutes and seconds like 1:30, or hours too like 0:01:30. Put one per line or separate them with commas. Times outside the length of the file are ignored rather than causing an error.

Do I need to enter a timestamp for the start and end?

No. The cut points are boundaries between parts, so the start of the file and the end are added automatically. Three timestamps produce four parts.

Will splitting an MP3 lose quality?

Not with the keep original format option, which copies the compressed audio directly into each part without decoding it. Cuts made this way land on the nearest frame boundary, so they can be a few hundredths of a second off - re-encode to MP3 if you need the split to be sample accurate.

Why can it not read the length of my file?

Your browser could not decode that container well enough to report a duration, which happens with some unusual or partly corrupted files. Converting it to MP3 or WAV first almost always fixes it, and then splitting works normally.
