How does the Persian calendar decide leap years?

The observed calendar has no fixed rule at all: a year is long if the equinox falls late enough in the day. Borkowski's arithmetic approximation, used here, reproduces that with a 33-year cycle whose breakpoints match the real calendar across the supported range.

How many days are in each Persian month?

Farvardin through Shahrivar have 31 days, Mehr through Bahman have 30, and Esfand has 29 in a common year or 30 in a leap year. That gives 365 or 366 days, the same as the Gregorian year.

What is the difference between the Persian and Islamic calendars?

The Persian calendar is solar, so its months stay in the same season year after year. The Islamic calendar is lunar and about eleven days shorter, so its months drift steadily backwards through the seasons. They are entirely different systems.

How accurate is this converter?

It reproduces the Persian calendar built into your browser for every one of 2205 sample days between 1925 and 2100, and it round-trips without loss. Outside 1178 to 1578 AP the arithmetic approximation is not published, so the tool declines rather than guessing.
