What is the tabular Islamic calendar?
It is a purely arithmetic version with a 30-year cycle: months alternate 30 and 29 days, and 11 of the 30 years gain a day at the end of Dhu al-Hijjah. It is used for civil and administrative purposes because it is predictable years in advance.
How many days are in an Islamic year?
354 days in a common year and 355 in a leap year, against 365 or 366 for the Gregorian year. That eleven-day gap is why Islamic dates move earlier through the Gregorian seasons by roughly eleven days every year.
When did the Hijri calendar begin?
Its epoch is 1 Muharram 1 AH, which corresponds to 16 July 622 in the Julian calendar, or 19 July 622 in the proleptic Gregorian one. This converter is anchored on exactly that day and refuses dates before it.
