What is the Remove Blank Pages from PDF?

Duplex scanners produce blank pages by the dozen: every single-sided sheet in the stack contributes an empty back.

  • Combines text extraction with measured ink coverage
  • Tolerance slider that ignores scanner speckle and shadows
  • Shows the exact ink percentage for every page before you commit
  • Per-page manual override so nothing is deleted by surprise
  • Rebuilds the document losslessly — kept pages are copied, not re-rendered
  • Analysis and rebuild both happen in your browser

How to use the Remove Blank Pages from PDF

  1. 1

Drop the scanned PDF onto the upload area and wait while every page is measured.

  2. 2

Look at the tiles: they show how many pages were found blank and how many will be kept.

  3. 3

Drag the ink tolerance slider up if speckle or punch-hole shadows are stopping genuinely blank pages from being detected.

  4. 4

Untick the text requirement if you want pages removed on ink coverage alone, regardless of any stray text.

  5. 5

Correct any individual page with its Keep/Remove checkbox, then click the remove button and save the cleaned file.

About the Remove Blank Pages from PDF

Duplex scanners produce blank pages by the dozen: every single-sided sheet in the stack contributes an empty back. Deleting them by hand means scrolling through the whole document and noting page numbers, which is tedious and easy to get wrong.

This tool checks two things for every page. It measures how much extractable text the page has, and it renders the page at low resolution and counts what share of the pixels are darker than mid-grey. A page that has almost no ink and no text is blank. Because scanner noise, punch-hole shadows and edge shadows all register as a tiny amount of ink, a tolerance slider lets you decide how much is still "blank".

You see the measured ink coverage for every page before anything is removed, and you can override any individual decision with a checkbox. The whole scan is analysed in your browser, so a confidential document set never leaves your machine.

Frequently asked questions

How does the tool decide a page is blank?

It renders the page at low resolution, counts the pixels darker than mid-grey, and expresses that as a percentage of the page. If the value is under your tolerance — and, optionally, the page also has no extractable text — the page is marked blank.

Why are my blank pages not being detected?

Scanned blanks are rarely pure white; speckle, shadows along the edge and punch-hole marks all count as ink. Raise the tolerance slider a little and watch the ink percentages in the table to find the threshold that separates your blanks from your real pages.

Will it delete a page that only has a page number on it?

Not by default. A page number is extractable text, so the text check keeps the page. If you want those removed too, untick the text requirement and rely on ink coverage alone.

Does removing pages reduce quality?

No. The pages you keep are copied across as they are, so text stays selectable and images stay at their original resolution. Only the low-resolution render used for measuring is discarded.

Can I check what will be removed before it happens?

Yes. The table lists every page with its ink coverage, character count and verdict, and the summary line names the exact pages that will be dropped. Nothing changes until you click the button.
