About the Review Schema Generator

The Review Schema Generator builds Review JSON-LD structured data for a single review of a product, book, movie, business or other item. Enter what is being reviewed, the rating, the author and the review text, and a valid script block is generated live for you to copy.

Review markup can make ratings eligible for review snippets — the star ratings that appear beneath a result in Search. The reviewRating uses ratingValue with bestRating and worstRating so your scale is unambiguous, and the itemReviewed is typed correctly for the thing you are rating.

The tool runs entirely in your browser, omits empty fields, and uploads nothing. It is designed for reviewers, publishers and developers adding genuine review structured data to editorial and product pages.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between Review and AggregateRating schema?

A Review represents a single critique with one rating and an author, while AggregateRating summarises many ratings into an average and a count. Use Review for one editorial or user review, and AggregateRating when you are reporting the combined score of multiple reviews.

Can I add review stars to my own product?

You can mark up genuine reviews written by others, but you cannot review your own product or service to give yourself stars. Google's guidelines prohibit self-serving reviews on the entity that provides the item, and violations commonly trigger manual actions.

What does bestRating and worstRating do?

They define the scale of your rating so search engines interpret ratingValue correctly. If you rate out of 10, set bestRating to 10; the default assumed scale is 5. Declaring the scale prevents a 7-out-of-10 from being misread as 7 out of 5.

What types of items can be reviewed with schema?

Common itemReviewed types include Product, Book, Movie, Restaurant, LocalBusiness, Course and SoftwareApplication, among many others. Pick the type that most specifically matches the thing you are reviewing so search engines model it accurately.

Do review snippets still show star ratings in Google?

Yes, for eligible types Google can show star ratings in review snippets when the markup is valid, the reviews are genuine, and they are visible on the page. Not every page qualifies, and Google decides when to display the stars, so treat them as possible rather than guaranteed.
