Times New Roman at 12 pt, double spaced, on US Letter (8.5" x 11") with 1-inch margins fits about 250 words on a page. Your 1,500 words run to about 6.0 pages.

Handwritten at about 125 words per lined page, the same text would fill roughly 12 pages.

These are the conventional planning figures teachers and publishers use — 12 pt Times New Roman, double spaced, on Letter with 1-inch margins is the classic 250 words per page. Headings, block quotes, dialogue and images all change the real count. Everything runs locally in your browser.

About the Words Per Page Calculator

How many pages is 1,500 words? It depends entirely on the font, the point size, the line spacing and the page you are printing on, which is why a single answer is always wrong. This calculator asks for all four and converts in both directions: words into pages, or pages into the words needed to fill them.

The figures are anchored to the long-standing manuscript convention — 12 pt Times New Roman, double spaced, on US Letter with one-inch margins gives about 250 words a page — and scale from there for other fonts, sizes, spacings, page sizes and margin widths. There is a handwritten estimate too, at roughly 125 words per lined page.

Nothing you type is sent anywhere: the arithmetic runs entirely in your browser, so the tool keeps working offline once the page has loaded. Treat the answer as a planning figure rather than a typeset proof, because headings, dialogue, block quotes and images all shift the real page count in a finished document.

Frequently asked questions

How many pages is 1,000 words?

In the standard manuscript setup — 12 pt Times New Roman, double spaced, one-inch margins — 1,000 words is about four pages. Single spaced, the same 1,000 words fits on roughly two pages, which is why the spacing setting matters more than anything else here.

How many words are on a page?

A double-spaced 12 pt Times page with one-inch margins holds about 250 words, and the same page single spaced holds about 500. Narrower fonts such as Garamond fit more, wide faces such as Verdana fit noticeably fewer.

Does double spacing double the number of pages?

Very nearly, yes. Doubling the leading roughly halves the number of lines that fit on a page, so the page count roughly doubles. That is exactly why publishers and tutors ask for double spacing — it leaves room to write between the lines.

Why does my word processor show a different page count?

Because a real document is not uniform running text. Headings, sub-headings, dialogue with short lines, block quotes, tables, images and page breaks all use space differently, so the actual count usually comes out a little above this estimate.

Is this the same as a printed book page count?

No. Books use smaller trim sizes, tighter leading and different margins, so a manuscript page and a book page hold very different numbers of words. Use the book page count calculator for a trim size like 6 by 9 inches.
