8D Audio Maker
Turn any song into 8D audio that circles your head in headphones. Adjustable rotation speed, depth, stereo width and room echo, processed in your browser.
8D audio is a headphone effect — on speakers the rotation mostly disappears. Rendering a full song in the browser engine usually takes about a minute, so keep this tab open while it works.
What is the 8D Audio Maker?
The ByteTools 8D Audio Maker applies the rotating stereo pan that makes a track seem to move around your head.
- Sine-wave rotating panner that circles the sound between your ears
- Rotation speed shown in seconds per full circle, not just a raw frequency
- Adjustable depth so you can keep some of the mix centred
- Optional stereo widening and a light room echo for extra space
- Peak limiter so the widened mix does not clip
- Fully local rendering - your music is never uploaded
How to use the 8D Audio Maker
- 1
Drop a song onto the box, or click to browse.
- 2
Set the rotation speed - the hint shows how long one full circle takes.
- 3
Adjust the rotation depth, and optionally widen the stereo image first.
- 4
Leave the room echo on for a more spacious feel, then click Make 8D Audio.
- 5
Listen on headphones and download the MP3.
About the 8D Audio Maker
The ByteTools 8D Audio Maker applies the rotating stereo pan that makes a track seem to move around your head. A sine-shaped panner sweeps the sound between the left and right channels in antiphase, and the rotation speed slider tells you how many seconds one full circle takes so you can match the pace of the song.
Optional extras complete the effect: a stereo widener that pushes left and right further apart before the rotation starts, and a light room echo that adds the sense of space the style depends on. A peak limiter runs at the end so the widened, echoed mix stays clean.
This is a headphone effect and this page will not pretend otherwise - on speakers the two channels blend in the air and the rotation largely disappears. Rendering runs locally through a WebAssembly build of ffmpeg, so your song is never uploaded, and mono files are converted to stereo first so they work too.
Frequently asked questions
What is 8D audio and how does it work?
It is a stereo trick, not a real surround format. The sound is panned smoothly back and forth between the left and right channels, usually with a little reverb, so on headphones your brain reads the movement as the music circling your head.
Why does 8D audio only work with headphones?
Headphones send each channel to one ear and nothing else. Over speakers, both ears hear both channels and the two blend in the room before they reach you, so the panning collapses into a mild width change instead of a sense of motion.
What rotation speed should I use?
Somewhere between one circle every four seconds and every ten works for most music. Fast rotation becomes seasick and distracting, while very slow rotation is barely noticeable. Start near the default and adjust to the pace of the track.
Does the stereo widening damage the mix?
It can if you push it too far. Widening works by exaggerating the difference between the channels, which thins out anything sitting in the centre - usually the lead vocal and the bass. If the vocal starts sounding hollow, pull the widening back.
Can I upload 8D versions of songs I do not own?
The effect does not change who owns the recording. An 8D edit is a derivative work, so publishing one without permission risks the same copyright claim as reposting the original. Use your own music or properly licensed tracks.
