Which days count as working days is entirely up to you. Monday to Friday is the default, but every weekday has its own checkbox, so a Sunday-to-Thursday week or a six-day operation works just as well. Paste your public holidays one per line and they are skipped too, with a label allowed after each date.

Frequently asked questions

What counts as a business day?

A business day is any day your organisation actually works, which is Monday to Friday in most places but not everywhere. This calculator lets you tick the weekdays yourself, so a Sunday-to-Thursday working week or a regular Saturday shift is handled without any workaround.

Does the start date count as the first business day?

No. Counting begins on the day after the start date, which is the usual convention for deadlines expressed as within ten working days. If your contract counts the start date itself, enter one fewer working day to match it.

How do I subtract business days instead of adding them?

Enter a negative number of working days. The tool steps backwards day by day using the same weekend and holiday rules, which is how you work out the latest date to send a notice that has to arrive a set number of working days beforehand.

Why are the calendar days more than the working days?

Because weekends and holidays sit between the working days but still pass on the calendar. Ten working days from a Monday is usually fourteen calendar days later, and the tool shows both figures side by side plus the list of days it skipped.

Can I use my own country's public holidays?

Yes, and you need to — no holiday list is built in, because holidays differ by country, by region and even by employer. Paste the dates your organisation observes, one per line, and they are excluded from the count for that calculation.
