About the GPA Calculator

Frequently asked questions

How is GPA calculated?

Multiply each course's grade points by its credit hours to get quality points, add all the quality points together, then divide by the total credit hours. A 4-credit A (4.0) and a 3-credit B (3.0) give (16 + 9) ÷ 7 = 3.57.

What is the difference between weighted and unweighted GPA?

Unweighted GPA treats every course the same and normally caps at 4.0. Weighted GPA adds extra points for harder classes — often +0.5 for honours and +1.0 for AP or IB — so it can go above 4.0. Colleges often recalculate GPA their own way, so know both numbers.

Can I calculate GPA without credit hours?

Yes. Give every course the same credit value, such as 1, and the result is a simple average of your grade points. That is how many high schools compute GPA when all classes carry equal weight.

Does this calculator work for a 10-point CGPA scale?

It does. Select the 10-point scale and the grade table switches to O, A+, A, B+, B, C, P and F. Grade point values differ between universities, so use the grade-points entry mode if your institution's table is different.

How do I raise my GPA?

Add the courses you plan to take next term with the grades you are targeting and watch the average move. Because GPA is credit-weighted, a strong grade in a 4-credit course shifts it far more than the same grade in a 1-credit elective.

Are grade point tables the same everywhere?

No. Some schools give an A+ 4.3, some cap it at 4.0, and 10-point universities vary widely in what each letter is worth. Always check the table printed in your handbook and adjust the grade points here to match.
