About the Hue & Saturation Adjuster

This tool gives you the Hue/Saturation/Lightness controls of a full photo editor in a single browser page. Shift every color around the wheel to recolor an image, pump up dull colors, mute an over-saturated shot toward pastel, or brighten and darken without touching contrast.

Under the hood each pixel is converted from RGB to HSL, adjusted, and converted back. The hue slider rotates colors by up to ±180°, saturation scales color intensity from fully grayscale to double strength, and lightness blends toward black or white. Together they cover the color axis that a simple brightness/contrast tool cannot reach.

Everything happens 100% locally in your browser using canvas pixel data. Your photo is never uploaded, so client work and personal pictures stay on your machine.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between hue, saturation and lightness?

Hue is the position of a color on the color wheel — red, green, blue and everything between. Saturation is how intense that color is, from grey to vivid. Lightness is how close it sits to black or white. Together they describe any color a screen can show.

How do I change the color of an image online?

Upload the image and drag the Hue slider: every color rotates around the wheel by the same amount, so blues can become greens, reds become purples, and so on. It is the quickest way to recolor a product shot or a design mockup without desktop software.

Can I make an image black and white with this tool?

Yes — drag Saturation all the way down to −100 and every color collapses to its grey equivalent. Unlike a fixed grayscale filter you can also stop partway for a subtle, muted film look.

Why use lightness instead of brightness?

Lightness in HSL moves colors toward white or black while preserving their hue relationships, which often looks more natural than adding a flat brightness offset to the RGB channels. For contrast changes, pair this tool with the brightness/contrast tool.

Does adjusting hue and saturation lose image quality?

The adjustment itself is a precise mathematical mapping applied once, and the result is saved as lossless PNG, so there is no compression damage. Extreme saturation boosts can clip colors that were already vivid, which is a property of the color space rather than the tool.
