Frequently asked questions

How do I make an image 50% transparent?

Upload the image, set the opacity slider to 50 and download the PNG. Every pixel's alpha is halved, so the image shows whatever is behind it at half strength when you place it in a document or design.

Why does my transparent image look normal in some apps?

The app is probably drawing it on a white background, which hides the transparency. Place it over a colored background or another image and the see-through effect becomes obvious. The checkerboard in the preview shows the true alpha.

Can I save a semi-transparent image as JPG?

Not with real transparency — JPG has no alpha channel. If you need JPG, choose a solid background color here first so the transparency is flattened onto that color, then convert the downloaded PNG to JPG.

Is changing opacity the same as adding a watermark?

It's one ingredient. A faded version of a logo made here at 20–30% opacity works well as a watermark layer you can place over photos with an editor or the dedicated watermark tool.
