About the Lease Calculator
The ByteTools Lease Calculator estimates the monthly payment on a vehicle or equipment lease. Enter the capitalized cost (the negotiated price), the residual value at lease end, the term in months and the money factor, and it shows the monthly payment split into its depreciation and finance portions.
It is built for car shoppers comparing lease deals and anyone who wants to understand how a lease payment is put together. Seeing the depreciation and finance parts separately makes it clear how the price, residual and money factor each push the payment up or down.
This is a clear approximation that excludes taxes, fees and any down payment, so your quoted lease may differ. Everything runs locally in your browser with nothing uploaded, and the results are estimates for planning only, not financial advice.
Frequently asked questions
How is a monthly lease payment calculated?
A lease payment has two parts: depreciation, which is the capitalized cost minus the residual value divided by the term, and a finance charge, which is the cap cost plus residual times the money factor. This calculator adds the two together for an estimated monthly payment.
What is a money factor?
The money factor is the lease equivalent of an interest rate, written as a small decimal like 0.00125. Multiply it by 2,400 to get the approximate APR — 0.00125 is about 3%. A lower money factor means a cheaper finance charge in the payment.
What is residual value in a lease?
Residual value is the estimated worth of the asset at the end of the lease, set by the lender. A higher residual means less depreciation to pay for, which lowers the monthly payment, since you are only financing the value the asset loses during the term.
What does this lease calculator leave out?
It gives a clear approximation of the base payment and excludes sales tax, acquisition and disposition fees, any down payment or trade-in, and mileage penalties. Your actual quote will add these, so use this as a starting point for comparison.
Are my lease figures private?
Yes. All calculations run in your browser and nothing is uploaded or stored, so your lease numbers stay completely private.
