The entrant list is padded up to the next power of two with byes, and standard seeding pairs seed 1 with the lowest seed so the strongest entrants can only meet in the later rounds. Byes are resolved automatically, so anyone who draws one already appears in the next round. Double elimination adds a losers bracket where every beaten entrant gets one second chance, then a grand final between the two bracket winners. Everything is built in your browser and the printable file is a plain HTML page you can print or fill in.

About the Tournament Bracket Generator
Paste your entrants one per line and the bracket builds itself. The field is padded up to the next power of two with byes, so 12 entrants become a 16-slot bracket with four byes. Standard seeding pairs the top seed with the lowest, which places the byes on the strongest entrants and keeps the favourites apart until the later rounds.
Byes are resolved for you. If someone draws one, they already appear in the second round rather than sitting behind a placeholder, so the bracket reads correctly from the start. Every match carries a number, and unresolved slots read Winner of M7 or Loser of M3 so a paper bracket is easy to fill in as results come in.
Choose double elimination and a full losers bracket is added, where everyone who loses gets exactly one second chance, followed by a grand final between the two bracket winners. Everything is built in your browser, and the printable download is a plain HTML page you can print and fill in by hand.
Frequently asked questions
How do byes work in a tournament bracket?
When the entrant count is not a power of two, empty slots are added to make up the difference. Standard seeding places those byes against the highest seeds, so the strongest entrants skip the first round — the conventional reward for seeding well.
What is the difference between single and double elimination?
In single elimination one loss ends your tournament, so the whole thing takes one match fewer than the bracket size. In double elimination a first loss drops you into a losers bracket for a second chance, and you are only out after losing twice. That needs roughly twice as many matches.
How does standard tournament seeding work?
Seed 1 plays the lowest seed, seed 2 plays the second lowest, and the halves are arranged so that seeds 1 and 2 can only meet in the final. With 8 entrants the order is 1v8, 4v5, 2v7 and 3v6.
How many matches will my tournament have?
Single elimination needs one match fewer than the bracket size, because each match eliminates exactly one entrant. Double elimination needs about twice that. The Matches stat shows the exact figure for your bracket.
Can I print the bracket and fill it in by hand?
Yes. The Printable download is a clean HTML file laid out in columns with a labelled box for every match, so you can print it and write the winners in as the tournament progresses.
