US Federal Holidays Calculator

List all eleven US federal holidays for any year with observed dates, weekend shifts applied under EO 11582, and one-click CSV or ICS calendar export.

These are the eleven federalholidays in 5 U.S.C. § 6103 — the days federal offices close and federal employees are paid. States, cities and private employers set their own lists: some add Good Friday, Election Day, Cesar Chavez Day or the day after Thanksgiving, and several do not observe Columbus Day at all. Check your own employer’s calendar before planning around this.

Highlighted rows fall on a weekend. Executive Order 11582 moves a Saturday holiday to the Friday before and a Sunday holiday to the Monday after, so the observed date differs from the date named in statute.

About the US Federal Holidays Calculator

This tool generates the eleven federal holidays of 5 U.S.C. § 6103 for any year straight from the statutory rules, not from a hard-coded list. Four are fixed dates, six are nth-weekday rules such as the third Monday in February, and Memorial Day is the last Monday in May — so the dates come out right for years that no published list covers.

It then applies the weekend observance rule from Executive Order 11582: a holiday on a Saturday is observed the Friday before, and one on a Sunday the Monday after. Shifted rows are highlighted with their statutory date alongside, and the tool flags the odd case where 31 December is a federal day off because New Year's Day falls on a Saturday.

These are federal holidays only. States, cities and private employers keep their own lists, so check yours before planning around this. Everything is computed in your browser and the CSV or .ics file is built locally — nothing about your calendar is sent anywhere.

Frequently asked questions

What are the federal holidays in 2026?

New Year's Day Thursday 1 January, MLK Day Monday 19 January, Washington's Birthday Monday 16 February, Memorial Day Monday 25 May, Juneteenth Friday 19 June, Independence Day observed Friday 3 July, Labor Day Monday 7 September, Columbus Day Monday 12 October, Veterans Day Wednesday 11 November, Thanksgiving Thursday 26 November and Christmas Friday 25 December.

What happens when a federal holiday falls on a weekend?

Executive Order 11582 moves it: a Saturday holiday is observed on the Friday before, and a Sunday holiday on the Monday after. That is why 4 July 2026, a Saturday, is taken as a day off on Friday 3 July instead.

Why is 31 December sometimes a federal holiday?

When 1 January falls on a Saturday, the observance rule moves that New Year's Day back to the Friday before, which is 31 December of the previous year. Federal employees get the day off even though no holiday is listed on it.

Are federal holidays the same as state or bank holidays?

No. Federal holidays close federal offices and pay federal employees. States add their own days, several no longer observe Columbus Day, and private employers are generally free to choose. Always check your own employer's published calendar.

How many federal holidays are there in the US?

Eleven. Juneteenth National Independence Day was the most recent addition, signed into law in June 2021, which is why older lists and older software still show only ten.

Can I import these holidays into my calendar?

Yes. Download the .ics file and open it in Google Calendar, Outlook or Apple Calendar. Each holiday becomes an all-day event on its observed date, with the statutory rule and original date in the description.
