About the Audio Waveform Generator
The Audio Waveform Generator draws the waveform of any audio file as a clean, customizable image. Drop in a song or recording and it is decoded with your browser's built-in Web Audio engine, reduced to peak values, and rendered on a canvas as bars or a mirrored waveform.
Waveform images are everywhere: podcast episode art, audiogram backgrounds, music-release social posts, and audio-player UI mockups. You control the style, bar width and spacing, colors, image size and background — including a fully transparent background so the waveform drops onto any design.
Decoding and drawing happen 100% locally in your browser — no ffmpeg engine to download, no uploads, no server. Even long files render in a moment because only the peak data is kept.
Frequently asked questions
What is a waveform image actually showing?
It plots the audio's amplitude over time: tall bars are loud moments, short bars are quiet ones. This tool takes the peak level of each slice of time and draws one bar per slice, which is the familiar 'soundwave' look used by podcast apps.
Can I get a transparent background?
Yes. Enable the transparent background option and the exported PNG keeps full alpha transparency, so you can layer the waveform over photos, gradients or video thumbnails in any editor.
What audio formats work?
Anything your browser can play: MP3, WAV, M4A/AAC, OGG and usually FLAC. Decoding uses the browser's own Web Audio engine, so format support matches your browser rather than a fixed list.
Is my audio uploaded to create the image?
No. The file is decoded and drawn entirely in your browser using the Web Audio API — there is no server, no upload and no account. It even works offline once the page is loaded.
Can I make a waveform video or animated waveform?
This tool produces still PNG images only. For an animated waveform you would need a video editor — a common workflow is exporting the still waveform here and animating a reveal mask over it.
