About the Commission Calculator
The ByteTools Commission Calculator works out how much a salesperson earns on a deal or a period of sales. Enter the sales amount and a commission rate to get a flat commission, or switch to tiered mode to apply different rates to different bands of sales. Add an optional base salary to see total earnings.
It is built for sales reps checking a payout, managers modelling incentive plans and freelancers pricing commission-based work. Tiered mode lets you reward higher performance with rising rates, mirroring how many real commission structures work.
All math runs locally in your browser with nothing uploaded, so your sales and pay figures stay private. Results are estimates based on the plan you enter and are not payroll or financial advice.
Frequently asked questions
How do you calculate sales commission?
Multiply the sales amount by the commission rate and divide by 100. A 5% commission on $50,000 of sales is 50,000 × 5 ÷ 100 = $2,500. Add any base salary to get total earnings, which this calculator does for both flat and tiered rates.
What is tiered commission?
Tiered commission applies different rates to different slices of sales, so higher performance earns a higher rate on the top slice. For example, the first band might pay 3% and sales above a threshold might pay 6%. Tiered mode adds up the commission from each band automatically.
How does a base salary affect commission earnings?
A base salary is a fixed amount you earn regardless of sales, and commission is added on top. Total earnings are the base plus the commission. Many sales roles combine a modest base with commission to balance stability and incentive.
What is an effective commission rate?
The effective rate is your total commission divided by total sales, expressed as a percentage. With tiered plans it falls between the lowest and highest tier rates and tells you, on average, what share of sales you actually earned.
Is my sales data private?
Yes. Everything is calculated in your browser and nothing is uploaded or saved, so your sales figures and pay stay confidential.
