About the Crop PDF

The ByteTools PDF Cropper trims unwanted space from the edges of every page. Enter how much to remove from the top, right, bottom and left in millimetres, points or inches, and the tool sets a new crop box — showing you the resulting page size before you commit.

Cropping happens locally in your browser, so the document is never uploaded and your original file on disk is never modified. Scanned agreements, patient records and internal drafts can be tidied up without leaving your device, and the tool keeps working even if you go offline after the page loads.

It is the standard fix for scans with black borders, e-books padded with huge margins that waste screen space on a tablet, and slide exports that need their footer strip removed before printing.

Frequently asked questions

How do I crop the white margins off a PDF?

Load the file, choose millimetres, and enter roughly the amount of white space you want gone from each edge — 15 mm all round is a common starting point for a text document. The tool previews the new page size so you can adjust before downloading.

Is cropping a PDF reversible?

The content is not deleted; the crop box simply hides it, so a viewer that lets you edit page boxes can restore the full page. Even so, keep your original file — that is the reliable way back.

What is the difference between the crop box and the media box?

The media box is the physical sheet the page is defined on; the crop box is the region a viewer actually displays. Most software honours the crop box, but a few printers still use the media box, which is why this tool can shrink both.

Can I crop only one page of a PDF?

This tool applies the same margins to every page, which is what you want for a uniform scan. To crop a single page, extract it first with the Extract PDF Pages tool, crop that one-page file, then merge it back in.

Does cropping reduce the PDF file size?

Barely. The hidden content is still stored inside the file, so only the page-box definitions change. If you need a smaller file, run the cropped document through the PDF compressor afterwards.
