About the Cumulative GPA Calculator

It also runs the calculation backwards. Type the cumulative GPA you are aiming for and the page works out the term GPA that would get you there. If the answer is above the maximum your scale allows, it says so plainly instead of printing an impossible number, because spreading a goal over more terms is usually the honest answer.

Grade point values are not universal, so the scale is a setting rather than an assumption: 4.0, 4.3 with an A+ above 4.0, and a 5.0 weighted scale are all available. Everything runs entirely in your browser — no grades are uploaded, no account is needed, and the page works offline.

Frequently asked questions

How do you calculate cumulative GPA with previous semesters?

Multiply your prior cumulative GPA by the credits it covers to get your existing quality points, add the quality points earned this term, then divide by the total credits across both. This tool does that for you and prints each step of the arithmetic.

What is the difference between term GPA and cumulative GPA?

Term GPA covers only the courses in the current semester, while cumulative GPA averages everything on your transcript weighted by credit hours. A strong term moves your cumulative GPA less and less as your credit total grows.

Why can't I raise my GPA much in one semester?

Because older credits outnumber new ones. With 90 credits behind you, a 15-credit term is only a sixth of the average, so even a perfect term shifts the cumulative figure by a few tenths. The target mode makes this visible instantly.

Do all universities use the same grade points?

No. Some award 4.0 for an A+ and some 4.3, some do not use plus and minus grades at all, and weighted scales add bonus points for honours or AP courses. That is why the scale is a dropdown here — check your registrar's published table.

Should I count credits or courses?

Credits, always. A four-credit course counts twice as much toward your GPA as a two-credit one, so entering the number of courses instead of credit hours will give you the wrong average.

Are my grades sent anywhere?

No. Every calculation happens in JavaScript inside your own browser tab. Nothing you type is transmitted, stored on a server or logged, and the page keeps working with your network disconnected.
