Everything is sized in real units, so a 5 mm square grid on A4 prints as an actual 5 mm grid. Paper sizes cover A4, A3, US Letter and Legal in portrait or landscape, and you can export at 96, 150 or 300 DPI depending on whether the sheet is going on screen or through a laser printer. Print at 100% scale rather than “fit to page” to keep the spacing exact.

What size squares does standard graph paper use?

School exercise books in the UK and Europe are usually 5 mm, with 10 mm used for younger classes. US quadrille pads are commonly 1/4 inch (6.35 mm), and engineering pads use five or ten divisions to the inch with heavier lines on the majors.

How do I print this at the right size?

Download the PNG, open it, and in the print dialog set the scale to 100% or “actual size” rather than “fit to page”. Fitting to page shrinks the image by a few percent to clear the printer's margins, which changes the spacing.

What is isometric graph paper used for?

Isometric paper has a triangular lattice — vertical lines plus two families at thirty degrees — so three-dimensional boxes and technical sketches can be drawn without perspective distortion. It is standard for design technology and for hand-drawn CAD-style work.

Which DPI should I choose?

150 DPI is plenty for grid lines on a home inkjet or laser printer and keeps the file small. Choose 300 DPI for very fine spacing or professional printing; choose 96 DPI only if the image is staying on screen.

Can I get graph paper as a PDF?

Why is my hexagonal grid bigger than the spacing I set?

For hexagons the spacing value is the side length, which is also the distance from the centre to a corner. A hexagon of side 5 mm is about 10 mm tall and 8.7 mm wide, so halve the value if you were thinking in terms of overall size.
