How to use the Quiz Maker

About the Quiz Maker

The ByteTools Quiz Maker is a two-in-one: an editor for writing multiple-choice and true/false questions, and a practice mode that marks your answers and explains them. Add up to six options per question, tick the correct one, and write an optional line of feedback that appears after marking — the bit that turns a test into revision.

When the quiz is ready, press take and answer it like a real paper. Marking colours every question green or red, highlights the right answer, shows your feedback note, and gives you a score and percentage. You can shuffle the question order so you are not simply memorising positions, and retake it as often as you like.

Three exports come out of it: the quiz as JSON for backup, a printable answer key with every correct letter, and a blank paper with tick boxes to hand out in class. Questions live in your browser's local storage, are never uploaded, and need no account.

Frequently asked questions

Can I share this quiz with my students?

You can share the files, not a link. Download the blank paper to print or email, or send the JSON so someone else can load it. There is no server behind this tool, so there is nothing to publish a shared link from — which is also why no student data is ever collected.

How many answer options should a multiple-choice question have?

Four is the classic choice and works well: enough to make guessing unlikely without padding the question with obviously wrong options. Research suggests three good options often test just as reliably as four weak ones, so quality beats quantity.

Where is my quiz stored?

In this browser's local storage on this device. It survives closing the tab and reopening the page, but it is not backed up anywhere and clearing your browsing data will remove it. Export the JSON if the quiz matters.

Can I make a quiz with written answers instead of options?

Not in this tool — automatic marking needs a fixed set of options, so it supports multiple choice and true/false. For open questions, write them on the blank paper export and mark them by hand, or use the flashcard maker for recall practice.

Does shuffling change the answer key?

No. Shuffling only affects the order questions are shown in while you take the quiz. The answer key and blank paper downloads always follow the order in the editor, so a printed key stays valid.
