It assumes you actually grade each review honestly; this planner projects a schedule from a single expected grade per topic, so treat it as a printable plan rather than a substitute for a flashcard app that re-grades every card. Everything runs in your browser and no topic list is uploaded.

What is the Spaced Repetition Schedule Generator?

A spaced repetition scheduler works out when to review each topic so revision lands just before you would forget it. This one applies SM-2 — one day, then six days, then the previous interval multiplied by an ease factor that moves with your expected recall grade — and exports the resulting calendar as CSV or .ics.

About the Spaced Repetition Schedule Generator

Spaced repetition is the best-evidenced revision strategy there is, but it is hard to run on paper because every topic ends up on its own timetable. This tool does the bookkeeping. Paste a topic list, give it a start date and how well you expect to recall each item, and it produces the full dated review schedule.

The algorithm is SM-2, the scheme published for SuperMemo 2 in 1990 and the ancestor of the schedulers in Anki and dozens of flashcard apps. The first review falls one day after study, the second six days later, and each one after that is the previous interval multiplied by the item's ease factor — which rises by 0.1 for a perfect recall, stays put at grade 4, and falls by 0.14 at grade 3. A grade below 3 restarts the item at one day, exactly as published.

The daily load chart shows which days are going to be heavy so you can move a topic before you get there, and the .ics export puts one all-day reminder on each review date. Everything is calculated in your browser and your topic list is never uploaded.

What is the SM-2 algorithm?

SM-2 is the spaced-repetition scheduler Piotr Woźniak published for SuperMemo 2 in 1990. It sets the first interval at one day and the second at six, then multiplies each interval by an ease factor that is adjusted after every review based on how easily you recalled the item.

What do the recall grades 0 to 5 mean?

Five is perfect instant recall, four is correct after a moment's thought, three is correct but hard, and anything below three counts as a failure. Grades of 5, 4 and 3 move the ease factor by +0.10, 0.00 and −0.14; a failure restarts the item at a one-day interval and leaves the ease factor alone.

How is this different from using Anki?

Anki re-grades every card each time you actually review it, so its schedule adapts as you go. This tool projects a schedule ahead of time from a single expected grade per topic, which is what you want for a printed revision plan or a calendar you can share with a study group.

Why are all my reviews on consecutive days?

Because the expected grade is below 3, which SM-2 treats as a failed recall — the item restarts at a one-day interval every time. Raise the grade for topics you actually expect to remember.

Will the calendar file work on my phone?

Yes. The .ics file uses standard all-day events, so it imports into Google Calendar, Apple Calendar and Outlook and syncs to your phone like any other imported calendar.
