About the Video Schema Generator

The Video Schema Generator builds VideoObject JSON-LD structured data for videos on your pages. Enter the title, description, thumbnail, upload date, duration and content or embed URL, and a valid script block is generated live, with the duration converted to an ISO 8601 format automatically.

Video markup helps Google understand and index your videos, making them eligible for video rich results, thumbnails in Search, and the dedicated Video tab. Accurate thumbnailUrl, uploadDate and duration are the fields Google relies on most, and this tool formats them correctly.

The tool runs entirely in your browser and omits any fields you leave empty. It is built for creators, marketers and developers who host or embed videos and want them properly represented in search results.

Frequently asked questions

What does VideoObject schema do?

VideoObject schema describes a video so search engines can index it and show video rich results — a thumbnail, duration and upload date in Search and the Video tab. It also helps features like key moments and video previews when the required fields are present and accurate.

What fields are required for video schema?

Google requires name, description, thumbnailUrl and uploadDate at minimum. Adding duration, contentUrl and embedUrl strengthens eligibility for richer features. This generator includes all of them, and thumbnailUrl should be a crawlable, high-quality image.

How is video duration formatted in schema?

Duration uses ISO 8601 format, so 3 minutes 30 seconds is PT3M30S and one hour is PT1H. This generator builds that string from the minutes and seconds you enter, so you never have to write the duration format by hand.

What is the difference between contentUrl and embedUrl?

contentUrl points to the actual raw video file, while embedUrl points to a player that can be embedded in an iframe, such as a YouTube embed link. Providing both helps Google access and display your video, though you can include just one if that is all you have.

Do I need video schema for YouTube videos?

If the video lives on YouTube, YouTube already provides its own markup on the watch page. Add VideoObject schema when you host or embed a video on your own site, so your page becomes eligible for video results rather than only the YouTube listing.
