About the Zodiac Sign Calculator

The ByteTools Zodiac Sign Calculator maps any birth date to its western sun sign using the standard tropical date ranges. Alongside the sign you get its element, modality, ruling planet, symbol and the full date range it covers, so you can see exactly where a birthday sits within the sign.

Dates within a day of a boundary trigger a cusp notice showing both neighbouring signs. That is honest rather than decorative: the sun actually enters a sign at a specific instant that shifts by up to a day from year to year, so a 22 September birthday is genuinely borderline and no fixed table can settle it.

Everything is computed locally in your browser from the date you type — no birth details are uploaded anywhere. Astrology is entertainment rather than science, and this tool simply applies the conventional date table without claiming any predictive power.

Frequently asked questions

What zodiac sign am I if I was born on September 22?

September 22 sits right on the Virgo–Libra boundary. Most tables put it at the very end of Virgo, but the sun's actual entry into Libra moves between about 22 and 23 September depending on the year, so the tool flags dates like this as a cusp.

Do zodiac sign dates change every year?

The published ranges are fixed by convention, but the astronomical moment the sun crosses into each sign drifts by up to roughly a day because the tropical year is not a whole number of days. That is why boundary birthdays are genuinely ambiguous without a birth time.

What are the zodiac elements and modalities?

Each sign belongs to one of four elements — fire, earth, air or water — and one of three modalities: cardinal signs start a season, fixed signs sit in the middle, and mutable signs end one. Every element and modality pairing occurs exactly once across the twelve signs.

Is this the same as my Chinese zodiac animal?

No. The western zodiac assigns a sign from your birth date within the year, changing roughly monthly. The Chinese zodiac assigns an animal based on which lunar year you were born in, changing annually, so the two systems are completely independent.

What is the difference between tropical and sidereal zodiac dates?

Western astrology uses the tropical zodiac, anchored to the equinoxes, which is what this tool applies. Vedic astrology uses the sidereal zodiac, anchored to the fixed stars, and because of precession its sign dates currently run about 24 days later.
