About the ACT to SAT Score Converter

The ByteTools ACT to SAT Score Converter uses the 2018 concordance tables that ACT and the College Board published jointly, derived from around 600,000 students in the class of 2017 who sat both tests. Enter an ACT composite and you get the single concordant SAT total plus the SAT range that ACT score covers, or go the other way from an SAT total.

Section scores work too. On the ACT side, English and Reading concord together as a sum against the SAT's Evidence-Based Reading and Writing score, while ACT Math maps to SAT Math. Frequently asked questions

What SAT score is equivalent to a 27 ACT?

An ACT composite of 27 concords to an SAT total of 1280, covering the SAT range 1260 to 1290. That means the two scores represent comparable performance among students who took both tests.

Is the ACT to SAT conversion a prediction of my score?

No. Concordance identifies scores that represent similar performance across the two tests, which is not the same as forecasting what you would earn if you actually sat the other one. Test formats, timing and content differ enough that individual results vary.

Why does the ACT English and Reading score convert as a sum?

Because the SAT combines reading and writing into a single Evidence-Based Reading and Writing score, while the ACT reports English and Reading separately. The published table concords the sum of those two ACT sections, from 2 to 72, against SAT EBRW.

Which concordance table should I use?

The 2018 tables are the only official ones for students applying for terms after autumn 2018. Older concordances built for the pre-2016 SAT give different answers and should not be mixed with current scores.

Do colleges use these tables?

Many do, as a guide when comparing applicants who submitted different tests. Individual universities can publish their own conversion or set separate thresholds for each test, so check the admissions pages of the schools you are applying to.
