How to use the Hundreds Chart Generator

About the Hundreds Chart Generator

The ByteTools Hundreds Chart Generator prints the classic 10 by 10 grid of 1 to 100, and just as easily a 5 by 5 chart counting in fives, a 120 chart, or a grid counting backwards from 100. You set the rows, columns, start number and step, and the first and last numbers are shown so you always know what you are about to print.

What is a hundreds chart used for?

It is a staple of primary maths for counting, place value, addition and subtraction across tens, and spotting number patterns. Shading multiples on the chart is one of the clearest ways to introduce skip counting and times tables.

What is the difference between a 100 chart and a 120 chart?

A 120 chart carries on past 100 for two more rows, which helps children see that place-value patterns keep going rather than stopping at a hundred. Set the rows to 12 here and you get one.

How do I make a fill-in-the-blank hundreds chart?

Drag the blank-cells slider to the percentage you want — 20% is a gentle start, 60% is a challenge. The tool removes that share of the numbers at random and adds a completed answer key as the second PDF page.

Will the answer key always match the sheet?

Yes. The blanks are generated from a seed rather than fresh randomness, so the key is produced from exactly the same layout as the puzzle. Pressing Different blanks changes both together.

Can I print a chart that counts backwards?

Yes. Set the start number to 100 and count by -1, and the grid fills in descending order. Combining that with the bottom-up fill order gives a chart that counts up the page instead of down it.
