A whitespace tolerance slider decides how faint a mark still counts as content, which lets you ignore scanner speckle without losing a light grey rule.

By default the same crop is applied to every page, using the smallest margin found anywhere in the document. That keeps a scanned book steady while you scroll instead of jumping about page by page. All of it runs in your browser, and the PDF is never uploaded.

Will trimming margins reduce the quality of my scan?

No. Only the page boxes change. The images and text inside are untouched, so the result looks identical apart from the missing white border, and the file size stays about the same.

Should I use the same crop on every page?

For a scanned book, yes — a per-page crop makes the text jump around as you scroll because every page trims slightly differently. For a mixed document with full-bleed pictures among text pages, per-page usually looks better.

What does the whitespace tolerance actually do?

It sets how dark a pixel has to be before it counts as content. Zero treats anything that is not pure white as content, which means scanner speckle keeps the margins. Raise it until the dust is ignored but real text is not.

Should I also shrink the media box?

Yes if you plan to print or send the file to an e-reader, because some tools ignore the crop box and use the media box. Leave it off if a downstream process needs the original page size.
